The Audi Q5 Sportback is a new addition to the brand’s SUV range for 2021. Based on the existing Q5 compact, the Sportback gets a sleeker body that emphasizes styling over practicality.
Available Trims
Audi offers the Q5 Sportback in Progressiv and Technik trim levels. Both are powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a mild hybrid system, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and standard AWD.
Standard Features
Audi dresses the Q5 Sportback’s Progressiv trim with 19-inch wheels and tires, LED head- and taillights, a power tailgate with hands-free opening, high-gloss window trim, aluminum roof rails, passive keyless entry, and heated/power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors.
Inside, Audi includes a heated steering wheel and front seats, three-zone automatic A/C, leather seating, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable front seats with driver lumbar, and a panoramic sunroof.
The Q5 Sportback’s tech suite comprises a garage door remote, a 10-speaker stereo, a 10.1-inch infotainment display, satellite radio, smartphone interface with wireless Apple CarPlay, rear-seat USB charging ports, and a digital gauge cluster.
The Q5 Sportback comes standard with the most common driver safety assists, which include lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring, an exit warning system, rain-sensing wipers, city-speed forward collision detection and automatic braking, blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, rear-end collision mitigation, and front and rear parking sensors.
Technik trim’s additions are a top-view camera system, LED matrix-design headlights with washers, dynamic LED taillights, heated/cooled cupholders, colour-customizable ambient interior lighting, heated rear seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Key Options
A comfort interior package brings front sport seats with ventilation and lumbar, and rear door sun shades.
Audi’s advanced driver assist option adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, all-speed forward collision detection and avoidance, traffic sign recognition, active lane assist, traffic congestion assist, and hands-on detection.
There are also two S line packages that consist mostly of cosmetic items, including 20-inch wheels and tires.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates for the Q5 Sportback are 10.1/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Q5 Sportback is one of the newest members of the compact SUV coupe class popularized by the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Another new competitor launched in 2021 (but as a 2022 model) is the Infiniti QX55.
